F.A.Q.

What is the recommended age to start voice lessons?

6 or 7 years old is great, though it is never too late to start, and the voice can be improved at any stage in life.

What should I bring to my first lesson?

A folder with blank paper and a pencil, water, and a willingness to learn and an understanding that skill and coordination take time to develop.

What do beginners usually work on at first?

We would first work on awareness of alignment/posture and promoting relaxation of the muscles around the vocal mechanism that cause tension.  Proper breath support is crucial to sustaining the voice freely and improving tone.  We would learn about the mechanics of the voice, so we know what is happening and why.  We would sing  varying vocal exercises to build stamina, awareness, and control, and then put that to use in a song of your choosing.  We would start to analyze the lyrical and emotional content of your song, so as to connect to it, and help you become a more effective communicator.

What should advancing students bring to their first lesson?

A folder with blank paper and a pencil, water, and tunes on a sheet, phone, or tablet that you'd like to work on.
